Smart Workshop Paths for Arc Raiders | U4GM
You limp back from an Arc Raiders run with a pack full of parts, one shield charge left, and just enough loot to upgrade something. Don't pick the flashiest bench. Your Workshop is an economy, and spending materials on the wrong unlock can turn a productive extraction into another slow rebuild. Checking ARC Raiders Items alongside your own stash plan helps, but the real goal is simple: build the stations that make your next three deployments safer and more profitable.
Your Workshop Is Not a Checklist
The starting workbench already covers basic ammunition, Light Shield, Shield Recharger, Bandage, and early weapons such as Ferro and Stitcher. That means you are not forced into a desperate Gunsmith rush after completing the opening round. The smarter first question is, "What ended my last run?" If you ran out of carrying room, look at Gear Bench progression. If poor healing forced an early extract, the Medical Lab deserves attention. If your loadout lacks reliable damage, then Gunsmith has a real case. Arc Raiders rewards fixing the weakness you actually have, not copying a supposed meta path.
Level 2 Is Usually the Real Power Spike
Level 3 upgrades look like the finish line, but level 2 is where a rebuilding Raider often gets the best return per material spent. Gear Bench level 2 opens Heavy Shield and Mk. 2 gear options, including Looting Mk. 2. That can affect nearly every successful run. Gunsmith level 2 makes more sense once basic protection is handled and crafted weapons are genuinely limiting your DPS. From what I've seen, players stall because they chase one expensive level 3 target before building a reliable level 2 foundation.
| Upgrade target | Best use case | Why build it now |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Gear Bench Level 2 | Most loadouts | Protection and looting gains affect every extraction. |
| 2. Medical Lab Level 2 | Solo or cautious runs | Less pressure to leave after a rough fight. |
| 3. Gunsmith Level 2 | Weapon-first builds | Useful after survival supplies are stable. |
Don't Spend Rare Parts on Hope
A bench level alone does not guarantee the recipe you want, because some crafts also need Blueprints. Before throwing scarce components into a station, check which recipes you already own and which ones still need to be found; players considering buy ARC Raiders BluePrints should still match that choice to the bench they intend to raise. A level 3 Gunsmith without a weapon recipe that fits your loadout is a costly trophy. Keep Advanced Mechanical Components, Advanced Electrical Components, enemy-linked drivers, cells, and cores earmarked for a specific target rather than recycling them for short-term convenience.
The Three-Run Test
Here's the rule I wish more Raiders used: an upgrade should improve the next three runs, not merely add an icon to the Workshop menu. The Refiner becomes valuable once processed parts are repeatedly blocking your chosen station path. Explosives Station earns its place sooner for squads that play choke points, traps, and forced movement. But if grenades are just occasional panic buttons for you, it can wait.
- Build Gear Bench early if shields, gear quality, or loot capacity are your recurring problem.
- Choose Medical Lab before Gunsmith if damage taken-not damage dealt-is ending your expeditions.
- Save common parts too; Plastic Parts, Fabric, Metal Parts, Rubber Parts, Chemicals, and ARC Alloy disappear faster than rare drops.
- Refine only toward a known craft or upgrade, not because raw materials feel untidy in storage.
Expedition Changes What "Finished" Means
Because an Expedition resets practical Raider progress such as the Workshop, stash progression, crafting access, level, and inventory, maxing every station is not automatically efficient. A late level 3 upgrade must earn back its cost before you depart. Looting Mk. 3 can justify that push for a Raider still planning several resource-heavy runs. A specialized weapon craft might not, especially if Expedition preparation is already consuming combat supplies, provisions, and materials. Don't let completionist instincts turn the final stretch into a grind with no payoff.
A Better Rebuild Route
Start with basic supplies from the opening workbench, then aim for Gear Bench level 2. Pick Medical Lab or Gunsmith next based on the failure that keeps repeating, add the Refiner as advanced requirements appear, and reserve level 3 for the bench tied to your actual build. That order isn't glamorous. It is, however, the route that turns each Arc Raiders extraction into momentum instead of another pile of materials waiting for a plan.
