Ethereal Knives received massive buffs in patch 3.29 that make it exceptional for mapping, with additional base projectiles, increased critical strike chance, added damage effectiveness scaling, and more projectile speed from quality. This makes EK an exceptional choice for POE currency Nimis setups, enabling full-screen coverage and consistent double-hits.

Core Damage Scaling: Herald Stacking

The build's damage primarily comes from stacking Heralds, with Herald of Purity, Ash, Ice, and Thunder all being required. The Formless Ring, Lost Unity, grants 3% more damage per Herald affecting you, which scales with Herald effect, while small tattoos on Intelligence nodes increase Herald buff effect and medium cluster jewels with Empowered Envoy and Endbringer provide Herald buff effect and more damage.

Core Uniques

The Golden Charlatan is the build's cornerstone, providing a random Shrine Buff for 30 seconds when you kill a Rare or Unique enemy, enabling sustained shrine uptime even in boss fights like Uber Maven or Uber Shaper.

Blunderbore provides 50-75% increased Effect of Shrine Buffs and gives Lesser Brutal and Massive Shrine buffs permanently, making shrines roughly twice as effective when combined with the Shrine Stacking ascendancy.

Nimis makes projectiles fire in random directions and return, providing full coverage similar to the Masochist version of EK but with much higher base damage.

The Gull triggers Create Lesser Shrine when you kill an enemy and provides 25-50% increased Effect and Duration of Shrine Buffs, making it best-in-slot for shrine effect scaling.

Gear Priorities

Supreme Ostentation via Elegant Hubris with Caspiro lets you ignore all attribute requirements, which is critical for equipping Blunderbore with its 800 Strength requirement and The Golden Charlatan with its 200 Intelligence requirement.

For gloves, aim for at least 60% physical damage converted to cold, getting 25% from implicits and 35% from veiled mod, then craft projectile speed and projectile damage on top.

Boots should have Tailwind and Elusive rolls for significant speed and defense, with Onslaught on kill being valuable for clear speed.

Runegraft of the Warp makes buffs expire 30% slower, while Runegraft of the Spellbound adds 30% of equipped two-handed weapon's physical damage to spells.

Atlas Strategy

For maximum shrine uptime during juiced mapping, invest in Strongboxes, Harbingers, Abysses, and Shrines for additional shrine buffs and increased effect.

Why Assassin

The Assassin ascendancy provides critical strike multiplier and critical chance, power charge generation via Unstable Infusion, culling strike for clear speed, and Physical Infusion with Bifurcate for double critical damage multiplier.

Bifurcate does not work with Diamond Shrine, which gives always critical strike, but since Diamond Shrines are uncommon, this is not a major limitation.

Build Performance

At full shrine and Headhunter stacks, you will have 90+ Headhunter stacks and 20+ shrines simultaneously, with one-shot capability on Uber bosses and 50-mod rare monsters.

The build achieves approximately 50 million base DPS before factoring in shrine buffs, with DPS scaling to effectively infinite values during juiced maps. Projectile speed scaling enables full-screen clear and consistent multi-hitting.

Important Note

Do not use Original Sin. Converting everything to chaos damage makes you lose all elemental damage, the nearby enemy chaos resistance reduction requires staying dangerously close to enemies, and you give up the inverted resistance mechanic which is far superior for damage scaling. The item is not worth it for this build and is better suited for cheap Path of exile currency melee characters that naturally stay close to enemies.
