M+F IWC Mark XVIII Titanium Watch Review - Born to Chase the Sky
M+ Watch Studio was a new watch factory established in Taiwan in 2019. Its first release was this replica of the IWC Mark XVIII. As a newcomer to the market, M+ demonstrated a strong commitment to craftsmanship and made promises regarding the quality of every watch it produced.
If you purchased an M+ Watch Mark XVIII Heritage, you were encouraged to carefully check whether the watch had the correct features. The warranty card included an anti-counterfeit label beneath a removable strip, and the number was designed to correspond with the individual watch.
The M+ team claimed to share the same pursuit of perfection as watch enthusiasts. Even minor imperfections were treated seriously, with each replica IWC watch undergoing repeated inspection and testing before leaving the factory.
For returns or exchanges, the original hang tag and warranty card were intended to be returned together with the watch, as their numbers were individually matched to the specific timepiece. For future maintenance, the warranty card was also required.
Titanium Case
Titanium has an appearance similar to steel, with a distinctive silver-gray tone. It is a transition metal that was once considered relatively rare. In reality, titanium is not especially scarce and is one of the more abundant elements in the Earth’s crust.
What makes titanium particularly attractive is its combination of high strength, low density, hardness, high melting point, and excellent corrosion resistance. High-purity titanium also has good ductility.
Titanium is significantly lighter than steel while maintaining impressive strength. It also performs well in extreme environments and offers exceptional resistance to corrosion.
One of titanium’s most notable characteristics is its ability to resist acids, alkalis, and seawater corrosion. Titanium alloys are therefore widely used in demanding applications, including marine engineering, aerospace, and other industries where strength and corrosion resistance are essential.
Titanium has also become increasingly popular in watchmaking. One important advantage is its skin-friendly nature. Some people may experience irritation when wearing stainless steel watches, especially during hot and humid weather, while titanium is generally more comfortable for sensitive skin.
For this reason, many watch brands have adopted titanium as a case material, particularly for sports watches and aviation-inspired models. IWC and Panerai have also been known for exploring advanced materials in their watch collections.
Case Construction and Finishing
The case and crown of the M+ IW327006 are made from titanium alloy, following the material concept of the original watch.
Titanium alloy offers an excellent balance between lightness, hardness, and corrosion resistance. It is also well suited to producing the sharp yet flowing lines required for a watch case with complex curves and carefully defined edges.
One of the key details is the construction of the four lugs. When placed on a flat surface, all four lugs are designed to sit evenly on the same plane. The edges near the lugs feature subtle chamfering, creating sharp lines without producing an uncomfortable feeling against the wrist.
Viewed from the side, the case maintains smooth and continuous curves without obvious interruptions. The combination of precise lines and flowing surfaces reflects the rugged yet refined character of the Mark XVIII Heritage.
According to the original description, the case construction was completed using synchronized five-axis CNC machining to achieve consistent shaping and finishing.
Dial, Hands, and Crystal
The IW327006 is distinctive within the IWC Mark XVIII because all of its hour markers feature luminous material.
The triangular marker at 12 o’clock is particularly notable, creating a three-dimensional appearance and giving the dial a strong aviation-inspired identity.
The hands feature a blued finish and luminous filling. In low-light conditions, the green glow of the hands complements the luminous hour markers. Under magnification, the printed text and markers are designed to appear clean and neatly finished, while the luminous material is evenly applied.
The watch is fitted with a high-grade sapphire crystal featuring a double-sided anti-reflective coating with a subtle blue tone. The coating is intended to improve transparency and reduce reflections, giving the dial a clearer and more open appearance.
Assembly was reportedly carried out in a controlled, dust-free environment, as even extremely small particles can become highly visible when inspected under magnification.
Leather Strap and NATO Strap
The watch uses specially designed spring bars with a reinforced structure intended to provide smooth operation and durability.
The leather strap features a construction designed to combine thickness, flexibility, and comfort. It uses a reinforced internal structure covered with top-grain calfskin leather, providing a soft yet durable feel while helping to reduce the risk of cracking during long-term use.
The watch can also be fitted with a NATO-style canvas strap, offering a more casual and military-inspired appearance.
The leather strap is paired with an 18mm titanium alloy buckle, while the NATO strap uses a 20mm stainless steel buckle. The spring bars used for the two strap configurations also differ in specification, following the design of the original model.
Individual Serial Numbers and Warranty Card
Each watch features an individual serial number, which is also reflected on the caseback and the accompanying warranty card.
The warranty card includes an anti-counterfeit label designed to reveal additional lettering when the protective strip is removed. The serial number shown on the hang tag is also intended to correspond with the number on the watch.
Movement
The IWC Mark XVIII Heritage IW327006 uses the Cal. 35111 movement according to IWC’s official specifications. Some earlier descriptions of the model incorrectly referred to a different caliber number.
M+ Watch Studio developed its own version of the Cal. 35111 based on its experience with movement modification and assembly. According to the manufacturer, the movement underwent long-term testing for timekeeping accuracy and power reserve performance.
At the time, several factories produced versions of this watch, including GS, MKS, and M+. Among these versions, the M+ movement was considered notable for its relatively detailed finishing and its attempt to reproduce the appearance of the original Cal. 35111.
Lightweight Titanium Construction
One of the greatest advantages of a titanium watch is its exceptionally light weight.
The leather strap version weighs approximately 57 to 59 grams, giving it a remarkably light and comfortable feel on the wrist. This lightweight construction closely reflects one of the defining characteristics of the original titanium Mark XVIII Heritage.
The combination of a titanium case, aviation-inspired design, highly legible luminous dial, sapphire crystal, and lightweight construction gives the IWC Mark XVIII Heritage IW327006 a distinctive personality. It captures the functional and utilitarian spirit of a pilot’s watch while offering the comfort and refinement that make titanium such an appealing material for everyday wear.
