Mastering Giants' Foundry in OSRS gold

Old School RuneScape (OSRS) offers a variety of engaging minigames for players to level up skills, earn rewards, and break the monotony of repetitive grinding. The Giants' Foundry is one such gem- a smithing-focused minigame that combines interactivity, strategy, and rewarding progression.

Unlike traditional anvil smithing, this minigame tasks you with forging massive weapons for OSRS gold  Kovac, a friendly hill giant, in an ancient forge beneath the Giants' Plateau. Whether you're a low-level player looking to boost smithing or a veteran chasing efficient XP, this guide covers everything you need to master the Giants' Foundry.

Prerequisites: What You Need to Start

Before you can begin forging giant swords, you must meet two core requirements to unlock the minigame. These are straightforward and easy to complete, even for new players.

First, you need a Smithing level of 15 (non-boostable). This is a modest requirement-you can quickly reach level 29 by completing the Knight's Sword quest, which skips the early grind entirely.

Second, you must complete the "Sleeping Giants" quest. This short, novice quest introduces you to Kovac and the foundry's basic mechanics, with no combat or major challenges. It takes roughly 15 minutes to finish.

You'll also need a few basic items: metal bars (bronze to rune, depending on your level), and either a bucket of water or ice gloves to handle hot preforms. A bucket is available inside the foundry if you forget yours.

Getting to the Giants' Foundry

The Giants' Foundry is located in a cave beneath the Giants' Plateau, east of Al Kharid. There are several fast ways to reach it, depending on your available teleports.

The quickest method is using the minigame teleport via the Grouping Menu-this takes you directly to the foundry's entrance. For players without this option, other reliable choices work too.

You can teleport to Al Kharid Palace with an Amulet of Glory and run north, or use a Ring of Dueling to teleport to Emir's Arena and head west. Gnome glider users can fly to Kar-Hewo and walk north to the plateau.

Once you reach the Giants' Plateau, speak to Kovac to enter the foundry and begin your smithing journey.

Minigame Mechanics: Step-by-Step Forging Process

The Giants' Foundry revolves around completing Kovac's commissions-each tasking you with forging a giant sword with two specific traits (e.g., narrow and spiked). The goal is to create a high-quality sword by following a simple, repeatable process.

1. Get a Commission from Kovac

Speak to Kovac to receive your first commission. He will specify two traits your sword must have, and you can cancel and request a new one if you want a different challenge.

Choose commissions that align with your available materials-lower-level metals like bronze and iron are easier to work with, while runite offers better rewards but requires more effort.

2. Fill the Crucible

The crucible is the heart of the foundry-it melts your metal bars into molten metal for forging. You need to add 28 metal bars (or equivalent smithed items like platebodies) to fill it.

Alloys (combinations of two metal types) often yield higher-quality swords and better XP. For example, a bronze-iron alloy is great for low-level players, while mithril-adamantite alloys work well for mid-level smiths.

Note: The crucible does not accept black/white equipment, dragon gear, or trimmed armour, as these cannot be made with standard smithing skills.

3. Set the Mould

Head to the mould jig to select moulds for the sword's forte, blades, and tip. Each mould contributes to the sword's traits-choose options that maximize the sum of your commission's required traits (e.g., +8 narrow, +6 spiked).

You can unlock better moulds later using foundry reputation, which makes it easier to meet commission requirements and craft higher-quality swords.

4. Pour and Refine the Preform

Pour the molten metal from the crucible into the mould to create a preform. Use ice gloves or a bucket of water to retrieve it-touching the hot preform without protection will burn you and reduce the sword's quality.

Next, refine the preform using three machines: the trip hammer, grindstone, and polishing wheel. Each machine improves the sword's quality, but you must keep the preform heated to the red zone (use the lava pool to reheat it) to avoid losing progress.

Watch for the golden glow on RuneScape gold for sale machines-this six-second window grants extra progress per click, so time your interactions carefully to maximize efficiency.

5. Hand in the Sword

Once you've refined the preform to a high quality, return it to Kovac. He will reward you with Smithing XP, foundry reputation, and gold based on the sword's quality and the metals used.

Kovac also restores 50% of your run energy after each hand-in, making it easy to keep forging without stopping to regenerate energy.
