Blue Gate doesn't mess around, and “A First Foothold” is where a lot of new players realise that fast. What sounds like a simple repair run turns into a full-map lesson in movement, timing, and nerves. If you're still learning where to loot, where to hide, and when to just back off, this quest will teach you the hard way. A lot of players head in thinking they only need to press a few buttons, then end up losing kits before they've even made it halfway across the map. Having some decent ARC Raiders Items helps, sure, but route choice matters even more here.

Start with Ridgeline

The first stop for most people is the eastern side of Blue Gate, around Ridgeline. You're looking for an old observation platform that needs to be stabilised. It doesn't take long once you get there, but getting there clean is the real issue. The area has poor cover, and early traffic can be rough because fresh spawns and patrols drift through at the same time. Don't sprint straight up unless you're sure it's clear. A slower approach usually saves you. Tap the objective, then move off the platform straight away. Hanging around for even a few extra seconds is how you get spotted by someone watching from distance.

Olive Grove gets chaotic fast

After that, move south into Olive Grove and find the raised platform with the yellow comms terminal. This part causes more problems than people expect. It's not difficult mechanically, but the location is noisy and popular, which is a bad mix. Players come through here for materials all the time, so there's a decent chance you'll hear footsteps before you finish the interaction. If that happens, don't panic and stand still like a target dummy. Break line of sight, reset, and come back if you need to. A failed rush usually costs more than a short delay. You'll also want to keep an eye on basic AI pressure, because even weak enemies can ruin your timing when another squad is nearby.

The church near Data Vault

Third, head north toward the Data Vault area and check the ruined church. The objective is up top, not inside, so you'll need to climb using the broken stonework or the old scaffolding. It's one of those places that feels safe until it suddenly isn't. The rooftop gives you a great view, but it also makes you easy to read if anybody's scanning the skyline. Adjust the satellite equipment, finish the task, and get down. Don't treat it like a sightseeing stop. If you pause up there, someone else usually makes the decision for you.

Trapper's Glade and the extract mindset

The last location is Trapper's Glade on the west side, where you need to secure loose roof panels on a Raider shelter. This section can go bad quickly because tougher ARC units often roam nearby, and once they lock on, the roof turns into a trap. Clear the ground first if you can. If not, at least know your exit before climbing. The nice part is the mission tracks progress across multiple raids, so you don't need a perfect run. Finish each site when you can, then extract once the chance is there. That's really the trick with this quest: play patient, don't force bad fights, and make sure your loadout is enough to survive the trip, whether that means scavenged gear or a few cheap Raiders weapons worked into your plan.
