And viewed through one lens, it may have been a brilliant move by the Leafs. That's because there are plenty of people who aren't sure McMann is worth the next contract that he's seeking. is one of those folks. "Before the Toronto Maple Leafs traded him at the deadline last week, reports indicated McMann was seeking a contract in the range of five years at $5 million per," Cam Eden Jersey Larkin writes. "Would a deal like that represent a trap for anyone looking to sign him? That's true, of course, but if Larkin's thinking is right, maybe it won't be the right move. McMann, as Larkins says, also has a lot of work to do himself. His performance down the stretch will likely impact just what he can demand as a free agent. There's also always a chance the Kraken like him enough to extend him before he even gets to free agency. For now, though, the Maple Leafs did what they could. They traded McMann for a sets, and they avoided getting locked into a deal that may have been too much for the player McMann actually is.
