He averaged 24:34 per game last season, nearly three full minutes more a game than his next closest teammate. The 31-year-old defenseman has quietly built a terrific career in the NHL as a perfect fit in New Jerseys defensively-angled system.The Devils are routinely a strong po se sion team and Greene is routinely one of the teams most effective players in that facet. His 56.3 Corsi for percentage was best among all defensemen on the team, despite the fact he was deployed primarily against top competition and saw most of his shifts start in the defensive zone.After the club lost in free agency, there's even more responsibility on Greene, who will turn 32 early next season, to carry the team defensively.There is nothing really exciting of flashy about Greene, which is just how the Devils seem to like it. He is a great fit for the system and also provides some of the younger defensemen like Adam Lar son, and , who likely will be thrust into more prominent roles next season, a strong defenseman to learn from.
