Path of Exile 2 is approaching another major reveal, with Gamescom 2026 set to POE2 Currency become an important milestone on the road to the game's 1.0 launch. Grinding Gear Games has confirmed a Gamescom appearance, creating plenty of speculation about new classes, upcoming content, and what will actually arrive before 1.0.

While much of the discussion remains speculation, the available clues point toward a reveal focused heavily on PoE 2's 1.0 launch rather than a large pre-1.0 content update. To be ready, buy POE2 Currency and build a flexible stash that lets you adapt quickly when 1.0 is revealed.

When Is the PoE 2 Gamescom Reveal?

GGG has announced that Path of Exile 2 will appear during Gamescom on August 25 at 11:00 a.m. PDT / 8:00 p.m. CEST.

The developer will also have a live booth at the event. That makes the announcement particularly interesting because previous Gamescom appearances have sometimes included playable demonstrations, new classes, new content, or special gameplay events.

Why Gamescom Matters

Gamescom provides GGG with an opportunity to showcase PoE 2 to both existing players and a much broader gaming audience.

Previous demonstrations have shown that playable content can appear at major events well before its eventual release. The Druid, for example, was playable during an earlier Gamescom presentation before eventually becoming an official class.

That does not confirm that another class will be playable this time, but it makes the possibility worth watching.

Will PoE 2 Reveal a New Class?

A new class is one of the biggest possibilities surrounding the Gamescom presentation.

However, there is an important distinction between revealing a class and releasing it before 1.0.

GGG could showcase upcoming class concepts, weapons, skills, or gameplay without making them immediately available in the current version.

Templar, Duelist, or Something Else?

The Templar is an obvious fan-favorite possibility because players are interested in seeing how PoE 2 handles flails, holy-themed abilities, and a new melee archetype.

However, weapon-related clues could point elsewhere.

Two-handed swords and daggers have appeared in recent footage, which has fueled speculation about classes such as the Duelist or another sword-focused archetype.

At this point, players should treat these clues as hints rather than confirmation.

Why a Necromancer May Not Be the Answer

Another recurring question is whether PoE 2 will eventually introduce a dedicated Necromancer.

The design philosophy makes that less straightforward than it was in Path of Exile 1.

Skills Should Define the Character

In Path of Exile 1, Ascendancy classes heavily influence a character's thematic identity. A Necromancer, for example, immediately communicates a minion-focused fantasy.

PoE 2 takes a different approach. The game's design aims to make Ascendancies less restrictive while allowing skills and build choices to define how a character plays.

This theoretically gives players greater freedom.

The problem is that PoE 2's passive tree can make extreme cross-archetype builds considerably more difficult because characters begin in specific areas of the tree.

A character starting in one region may need significant investment to reach mechanics associated with another archetype.

Unique items and specialized mechanics can help solve this problem, but that means some unconventional fantasies may require additional investment.

Why New Acts May Not Be Shown

Another major question is whether Gamescom will reveal the remaining campaign acts.

That seems less likely.

If the later acts contain substantial story and gameplay content intended for the 1.0 launch, revealing too much of them now could reduce their impact when the full game releases.

Protecting the 1.0 Experience

This is especially important because PoE 2 is targeting a much broader audience at 1.0.

Veteran players may enjoy seeing every upcoming mechanic, boss, and act, but casual players can have a very different experience.

Showing too much of the campaign could spoil some of the reasons for playing through the full release.

Instead, GGG may choose to emphasize systems, classes, gameplay improvements, and the overall 1.0 announcement while keeping major story content hidden.

Why 0.5.5 Could Focus on Balance

Another reasonable expectation is that the next major pre-1.0 update could concentrate on balance and refinement rather than introducing another enormous content package.

This would make sense if GGG wants to preserve development resources for the full launch.

PoE 2's existing endgame already contains a huge amount of content. For many players, particularly casual players, simply understanding and completing everything can already be overwhelming.

A balance-focused update could therefore improve the existing experience while the development team prepares the larger 1.0 package.

Why GGG May Save Everything for 1.0

There is a strong business argument for holding major content until launch.

A Bigger Launch Creates a Bigger Audience

A new class released before 1.0 could generate additional attention and potentially encourage more players to purchase early access.

However, a standalone class is still relatively narrow compared with a massive 1.0 launch.

GGG would need to market the release, support it, balance it, and potentially create additional content around it.

By saving major features for 1.0, GGG can instead create one enormous marketing moment.

A larger launch also gives content creators more material to buy Path of Exile 2 Currency cover, which can create a snowball effect across Twitch, YouTube, social media, and gaming communities.
