In response, the industry has made substantial investments in safety protocols, waste reduction, and greener manufacturing processes. Advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning are being leveraged to optimize plant operations, accelerate materials discovery, and predict maintenance needs. Simultaneously, breakthroughs in biotechnology are enabling the production of chemicals from renewable biological sources rather than fossil fuels. The overarching trend is the shift from a linear "take-make-dispose" model to a circular one, where waste is minimized, and materials are reused and recycled.
