One of the biggest draft day stories this season was: Where will Malik Willis land?NFL reporters and fans alike spun the Willis hype machine into him being a potential top-10 pick, to the point he was in the green room for the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.Willis wouldn't go until the third round to the Titans, who boast the best running back in the NFL and a relatively stable quarterback situation with Ryan Tannehill at the helm.The former Liberty quarterback was, unsurprisingly, humble after his precipitous fall.Still super appreciative and thankful for this opportunity to be in Vegas and is a prime example on adversity and continuing to grow in your faith TGFE Malik Willis (@malikwillis) As we often see with drafted quarterbacks, however, the conversation around Willis simply shifted to: When could we see him in games, and what will take to get him in?MORE: Jeremy Fowler, it doesn't look like Willis rising up and snatching the starting job is in the cards for 2022."Willis is very clearly the developmental quarterback, and even when he gets second-team reps, the goal appears to be letting him redshirt behind the scenes," Fowler wrote this week.In addition, it doesn't seem like the Titans want to go crazy with using him in a gimmicky sense either."I don't get the sense the Titans are going to roll Willis out for a Wildcat-type package. He will be stashed," Fowler said.This shouldn't come as a groundbreaking revelation to NFL fans. The Titans clearly are trying to make a deep playoff push, having lost their last two playoff games since making the AFC Championship Game in 2019. Furthermore, they're an offense predicated on running the ball with Derrick Henry and getting Tannehill into play action.To be totally frank, the Titans didn't need to draft Willis. They have Tannehill for another two seasons, and he has been more than serviceable for them. His style is a perfect fit for what the Titans have wanted to do since back when Arthur Smith was calling plays: A guy who's comfortable under center and can effectively run play action.As far as the Titans are concerned, they're squarely in a Super Bowl window right now, and that means there's no need to me s up the vibe in Nashville with a rookie quarterback who requires an offensive philosophy shift.MORE:The Titans also have a team built around their running game. Henry, like Tannehill, is on the final two years of his contract, which is significant.That means the Titans Emil Hemming Jersey have 2022 and 2023 to push ahead with their current makeup, and if they continue to fall short, they can reevaluate. Willis will give them the ability to pivot to a new direction if they so choose.In two words? Unmitigated disaster.Tannehill is a veteran, and he's been steady in his Tenne see career. He has 76 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, but 2021 threw up some red flags for the quarterback.Specifically, Tannehill threw 14 interceptions, his highest total since his second season in 2013. If those interceptions start to cost the Titans -- who went 12-5 with him starting last season -- games, it might be worth another look.An injury to Henry could also change the equation. The Titans offense was stymied and neutered without Henry last season, as Tannehill lost the play action option to a degree. Four of Tannehill's picks came against the Texans in a brutal 22-13 lo s, which can rightfully be treated as an outlier. But even so, removing his worst game, Tannehill's 10 picks would still be a high with the Titans.The Titans would have to completely fall on their face out of the gate for Willis to see starting reps this year. He was very much a pure dual-threat QB at Liberty, which -- again -- is different from what the Titans are trying to do.His completion percentage can be improved upon, but with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of2:1, there's a lot to work with there.The Titans are part of the top of a very top-heavy AFC. While the Chiefs and Bills continue to slug it out at the top year in and year out, the Titans have sneakily been in the mix in each of the past few seasons.The urgency, however, is undoubtedly building. The Titans didn't draft Willis for nothing, and if they don't want to use him in a Wildcat sense this year, it stands to reason they have other plans. Willis has the temperament to sit a year and learn behind Tannehill. Perhaps it will pay dividends for the third-round pick in the not-too-distant future. Evgenii Dadonov Jersey
